Booking and Registering for a Hong Kong Identity Card

Who needs to register, and when

Anyone aged 11 or above who is permitted to stay in Hong Kong for more than 180 days must register for a Hong Kong Identity Card within 30 days of arrival. The first registration is free of charge.

How to book an appointment

Appointments can be made through the Immigration Department website, its mobile app, or the telephone booking system. Slots are released for a rolling window of working days ahead, so booking soon after arrival helps avoid a squeeze near the 30-day deadline.

What to bring on the day

Bring your passport and valid entry permit or student visa record to the Registration of Persons Office. Applications are completed or verified electronically on site, with staff assistance available if needed.
