Today, 25 September 2026, marks the Mid-Autumn Festival — one of the most important traditional holidays on the Chinese lunar calendar. In Hong Kong, the day after Mid-Autumn Festival (26 September, Saturday) is a public holiday, giving everyone a chance to properly slow down and celebrate.

For many international students spending their first Mid-Autumn Festival away from home, this holiday can bring on a bit of homesickness — and that’s completely normal. Reunion doesn’t have to mean being in the same place: grab some mooncakes with your roommates or friends from home, find a rooftop or a spot by the harbour to watch the moon together, or simply video call your family back home for a while. All of these count.
